About Me

My photo
Lethbridge, Canada
I currently work as a Unit Clerk but got accepted into ACAD for Fall semester so my life has truly been flipped on it's head; moving away from my home and hometown (as well as my fiance, family and pup as well as my new home, friends and life) and becoming an artist in a new city and home by myself is really a terrifying challenge for me but I'm up for it! (or at least trying to convince myself I am. Lol.) I'm a very creative old soul; I have a very broad, open minded view of the world and love helping people. I'm also quite crafty and like to get my hands dirty! I love to bake, cook and experiment in the kitchen and to organize, draw and create. I'm a dog person and a cat person and am generally very accepting and warm. I'm a designer, a pet owner, a sometimes optimist, a humanitarian, a food lover, a DIYer, a Pinterest fanatic and so much more! Check out my blogs if you don't believe me and join me on this crazy ride we call life. I love learning and have so many desires in my heart so I'm always up to something new.

blog assignment 1.2

Using Raizman's two- fold definition of design, complete the following:

1. Find examples of two items that are similar in design. What elements of design have been altered to create the two unique designs?

A minimalist chaise vs. a classic Victorian chaise.

The classic chaise has very curlicue type lines and shape to it which gives off a very feminine aire and romantic shape; where as the minimalist chair has very stark, straight lines and a basic overall shape using all rectangular pieces put together. The stark white of the minimalist chair gives it a very (collequial) modern appearance and it has no detail which makes it stand out. However, the classic chair has broad sweeping curves and rich red and brown colours giving it a romantic aire that can only be related to a very high class woman whom would have used it to lay or "faint" against. Personally, I prefer the romantic elegance of the classic chaise compared to the stark reality of the minimalist chaise. While both are similar in that they have a backrest, an armrest of sorts and a long laying area, the construction of the two are very unique to each other and themselves, yet completely suited to the society in which they were created.
2. Using part 2 of the definition, list 3 more examples of this type of design.
A few more examples are:
map
instruction booklet
flat or technical drawing
fashion illustration
dance instructions
creating a course such as this one
creating an assignment
